Subsidy Guide
PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana — Step-by-Step Application Guide
A plain-language walkthrough of the Government of India's rooftop solar scheme for households — from portal registration to subsidy credit — and how we assist at every step in Purba Bardhaman and across West Bengal.
Who Can Generally Apply
- Residential (household) electricity consumers — the central scheme is designed for homes
- A valid electricity connection in the applicant's name (e.g. WBSEDCL consumer in West Bengal)
- Suitable shadow-free rooftop area with the legal right to use it
- Installation through a vendor registered/enlisted as required by the scheme rules
Documents Typically Needed
- Latest electricity bill (consumer number required)
- Aadhaar card of the applicant
- Bank account details (passbook copy or cancelled cheque) for DBT credit
- Rooftop photograph / ownership or usage proof as asked on the portal
- Passport-size photograph and mobile number linked for OTP
The Process
Seven Steps From Application to Subsidy
- 01
Check Eligibility & Roof
Confirm your consumer category, roof suitability and approximate system size. A site survey finalises capacity and structure type.
- 02
Register on the National Portal
Create an application on the PM Surya Ghar national portal using your electricity consumer number and mobile number.
- 03
Apply for DISCOM Feasibility
The application goes to your distribution company (WBSEDCL in our region) for technical feasibility approval.
- 04
Choose a Vendor After Feasibility
Once feasibility is approved, select a registered/enlisted vendor and finalise the system design, equipment and quotation.
- 05
Installation as Per Standards
The vendor installs the plant using compliant modules, inverter and balance-of-system, following prescribed technical standards.
- 06
Inspection & Net Metering
DISCOM inspection, bi-directional (net) meter installation and generation of the commissioning certificate.
- 07
Subsidy via Direct Benefit Transfer
After commissioning details are submitted on the portal, the applicable central financial assistance is credited to your bank account as per scheme rules.
